They were all awaiting a promise to be fulfilled by Jehovah, viz. the Abrahamic Covenant (which promised posterity and land) and the Davidic Covenant (which promised an eternal throne). One of the GRAND themes, without question, of the Old Testament prophets was the setting up of the KINGDOM by MESSIAH UPON EARTH. This message was so prevalent, the disciples of Christ asked Him if He would do it at this time. Notice His answer, He did not rebuke them and inform them the kingdom was now the church, He simply told them it was in the Father s hands& they were to wait for the Spirit and then preach the Gospel!
